The Commissioner's Court convened a special called workshop to review budget needs lists submitted in June 2024 by the county's nine volunteer fire departments. Each department presented its requests, which ranged from apparatus replacement and station construction to equipment items such as SCBA bottles, thermal imagers, and a lakeside boat house, while the court also discussed the status of previously ordered trucks, rescue truck specification variances, and fleet life expectancy. Additional discussion covered fireboat operator certification, radio compatibility, water service and hydrant installation at a new station, and property reversion terms for station ownership. The workshop closed with remarks on future sprinkler capability and appreciation for the volunteer departments.
